Employee Theft

arrested for stealing from work

It’s easy in this changing work world and economy to feel like the deck is stacked against you and you’ll never get ahead. It’s easy to feel like things are unfair and that “they owe me!” But is risking losing your job, your income, your reputation, and your future employability really going to help? Employee theft is comes in many forms and degrees—and we often rationalize it—but none of it leads to a positive outcome. Are you tired of living a double-life at work, feeling on edge every time the boss calls your name, wondering if today is the day your world collapses?

Welcome to Employee Theft Solutions. Terrence Shulman has extensive experience helping people who have found themselves in or heading towards a dire situation at work due to theft or embezzlement.

Stop and get help now to avert a disaster or to help you pick up the pieces of one. The Shulman Center can give you the tools you need to end the behavior and/or help you through any legal processes.

Did you know that 60% of inventory losses are caused by employees?

Our program provides compassionate, confidential and non-judgmental counseling, giving you the tools you need to change your life. The Shulman Center Program [link Counseling page] has been continually evolving and fine-tuning from its earliest successful results. Expert Therapy/Counseling sessions are available by phone with Terrence D. Shulman JD, LMSW, ACSW, CAAC, CPC -- attorney, addictions counselor, and expert on employee theft and its ramifications. Typically, 90% of our clients enroll in and successfully complete the basic program.

Our goal is to educate individuals and the community at large about the complex motivations and recovery treatment process for these behaviors, while emphasizing personal responsibility and accountability.

I’ve found most people view any attempt to understand or explain theft as excuses. I have known countless people who didn't fully recognize they had a problem as well as those who knew they did and wanted to stop but didn't know how or where to go for help. I have a shared interest in seeing a reduction in theft; however, I have some different ideas about how to get there.

Why do people steal from work?

  • Greed
  • To support an underlying addiction
  • Work-related revenge/justification
  • Entitlement
  • Attitudinal rationalization: "it's not stealing," "everyone does it"
  • Perceived economic need
  • Response to stress/pressures at work and/or home

Consequences of employee theft:

  • Loss of time
  • Loss of respect
  • Loss of relationships
  • Loss of health
  • Loss of self-esteem
  • Criminal record
  • Loss of focus
  • Loss of reputation
  • Loss of property - due to eviction
  • Loss of employment
  • Loss of finances
